Guesthouse
We opened our guesthouse, which is limited to one guest per day, with the hope that our guests will enjoy traveling around Kyoto as if they were living there. I have traveled all over the world, from Africa to South America, and the most beautiful place I found was Demachiyanagi, which overlooks the Kamo River Delta.
This old house was built in 1941, just as the Pacific War was beginning. It was extensively renovated, but the beams and staircase were left as they were, and the alcove pillars were reused as staircase railings, etc. The building has been restored to its former glory and evokes the lifestyle of Kyoto in the past.
Less than a two-minute walk from Demachiyanagi Station, the base for sightseeing in Kyoto, the Kamo River Delta, Shimogamo Shrine, and the Kyoto Imperial Palace are all within walking distance. The living room is furnished with a Wajima-nuri table and display cabinet, Van Gogh’s Starry Moonlit Night made of Nishijin brocade (called Nishijin ori in Japanese), which can no longer be made, and Mino washi lighting in the bedroom. In order to allow our guests to relax and enjoy their time at leisure, we have not installed a television. Please fully enjoy the quiet townscape of the old days and the Kamo River changing from season to season. During the migratory bird season in spring and fall, we also offer guided bird watching at the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Please inquire about renting a picnic set on the Kamo River Delta, staying longer than a week, or using the space as a gallery space.
Customer review
Mr. L.D.
- Definitely a gold host.
-
Although the inn is not large, it was much more comfortable than I had initially expected. Transportation is excellent and there are very good restaurants nearby. And right next to the Kamo River.
Nobu spoke perfect French and contacted me daily to see if there were any problems. He also sent us information on how to get to other tourist attractions, restaurant recommendations, etc., and he was quick to replenish coffee and other things that were missing.

- The owner was very kind.
-
When we arrived, not only were welcome sweets provided, but he also guided us to a nearby market, a supermarket, and the Kamo River Delta.
This is the kind of service you will never get at a hotel. We loved this Kamogawa area and the children seemed to enjoy it very much. We can walk to Shimogamo Shrine, a world heritage site, and Sanjo, with its many stores, is only one stop away by train.

Not only did we have wonderful days in Kyoto, but thanks to your advice we were able to enjoy many local delicacies such as ramen. It was also a great pleasure to meet Nobu. Kyoto is truly a wonderful place and I would love to visit again next time.
